[How-to] Unlock Idea Huawei EG162G Netsetter Data Card Modem

Another tutorial, i want to share which is on how to  unlocked Huawei EG162G idea net setter Data Card. If you have another model  please refer my previous post on Unlock idea NetSetter Huawei E1550

From past few days i was getting email regarding  Idea Net Setter Unlock Tutorial.Finally i am able to  find the solution of “The data card can’t be found” error message while trying to firmware upgrade, I have borrowed an Idea Net Setter EG162G Data Card from one of my friend and try to unlock it by my self and guess what, i was facing same error message.

- Below is an Error message and screen shot which i was getting.

The data card can’t be found. Error Code: 2
One of the following reasons may cause the error:
a. The data card is not properly connected to PC.
b. Other program is using the data card.
c. You do not have the authority of the administrator.

The data card can not be found
- From Trial based unlocking of netsetter ,i m able to resolve Huawei modems issue, the “data card cannot be found” error when running firmware updates will pop up if:

1. You’re connected to the internet when you try to run the update
2. The 3 software is running when you try to run the firmware
3. Firewall/AV software is blocking the updater
4. You’re trying to run the updater on a machine the modem isn’t properly installed on (ie. all the drivers aren’t present/installed properly). If the modem is only being seen as a CD Drive, then the firmware updater won’t run.

- So now we have to first make sure that our Data card is detected on PC or Notebook properly so we can proceed ahead and upgrade firmware. But to proceed ahead you must have to resolve above given “The data card can’t be found. Error Code: 2″ Error.

- I was getting the error because of Point number 4 ( Modem is only being seen as a CD Drive under Control Panel >> Device Manger)

How to Resolve the data card can’t be found error.

Step 1) Go to Control Panel >> System and then navigate to Hardware >> Device Manager tab.

Step 2) Now Find the DVD/CD-ROM drives section, and look for the HUAWEI device there, Right Click and Uninstall it.

Step 3) Now Remove data card and Restart the computer as it will ask you to restart.

- Now insert data card and double click on Firmware upgrade (Firmware Download Link is given below) it will detect data card and upgrade the firmware of your data card.

Steps to Unlock Huawei EG162G Data Card

Step 1) Download Huawei EG162G Firmware and Upgrade your data card firmware.

Step 2) Download Idea Net Setter tool kit: idea net setter unlock software, and

- Open Universal MasterCode.exe, and Enter your 15 digit IMEI number and you will Generate your Unlock Code and Flash Code.

Example: From IMEI number (353474024585481), I have generated unlock code (60684032) and flash code (58346543).

- Enter not Native SIM (bsnl, airtel, vodafone, tata, uninor etc expecting idea) card and it will ask for Unlock code just enter above Generated unlock code.

To verify your unlocking , please make sure you are receiving signal of inserted provider simcards
