Sony Xperia Z – First Look – Review

Last updated on By Mohsin Patel in Gadgets Reviews

Sony has been struggling in the mobile phone market finding it difficult competing with giants like Samsung and Apple. This Japanese manufacturer has made a great comeback in 2013, by introducing the world’s first waterproof smartphone Sony Xperia Z. This dust and water-resistant phone is capable of being submerged fully in water for 30 minutes and still work fine when taken out. Interesting indeed!

The first look of the phone gives a perfect impression in the minds of a viewer. If you are a person who is tired of looking at the same kind of smartphones for a long time, you will find this one interesting. Sony has planned to sell this phone in all colors and the officially released black one, which looked elegance personified. The back frame is made of smooth glass giving the phone a stylish look. The power button and volume controls are comfortably seated in the front panel and the display looks chic for a smartphone. Sony claims that the battery life of the phone will be outstanding.

Sony Xperia Z has a unique feature embedded in it. The phone automatically turns off any function or app that you are not using at the present moment. However, this feature does not cause any hindrance in taking calls, receiving texts and activating alarms. When the phone is used for any purpose, all the background activities come back to life. Guess this is a new trick to save some battery and to extend the battery life.

The phone is about 7.9 mm thick with 2GB RAM and a quad-core processor. The display of the phone is packed with the new Bravia Engine technology, which delivers pictures, videos and colors brilliantly on the High Definition 1080 pixel display. The user interface has been completely remodeled, giving every customer a wonderful experience. The user interface might remind you of the Android skin from LG. However, this new change is suspected to do much goodness to the company. The phone also comes with a wonderful music player and a few mini apps. Calculator does not fill up the whole screen providing a neat look. Switching between multiple programs can also be done in a jiffy.

Take a look at some of the features, which can make any head turn towards it:

  • A powerful 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 quad core processor
  • The full HD five inch display screen is powered with a resolution 1920/1080p
  • Built-in with a 16GB memory, which can be expanded until 32GB
  • Holds a RAM of about 2GB
  • Supports LTE/4G band support, which enables quick browsing. This feature makes it a strong competitor of  giants like Samsung Galaxy S III and iPhone 5
  • The camera performs extremely well than most of the smartphones in the market. The phone has a 13.1 megapixel camera at the back and a 2.2 megapixel camera in the front
  • The world’s first phone, which is water and dust resistant
  • The phone is designed to support NFC (Near Field Communication)
  • Operates on the famous Android’s Jelly Bean operating system

This phone has already received much limelight and experts are having a close eye on it. However, Sony’s decision to stick to the 4.1 version of Android operating system is a little surprising. Many have raised their eyebrows stating why not 4.2? The 4.2 version of the Android operating system can boost up the sales of this phone a little higher. Though the answer to this remains unclear, Sony is expected to fix all its minor issues, if any before its release. This phone is expected to hit the market early this spring. Sony Xperia Z is a perfect combination of functions and style and there is no doubt that this phone will do well in the market.
